Vision & Mission

UUSF Mission

The mission of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Fairhaven is to care for. It is rooted in the notion that the practice of love lives at the center of all we strive toward.

  • We care for ourselves. We build a church that provides us individually and collectively with refuge and respite, with a sense of the holy, with wellbeing, perhaps occasionally with transcendence.

  • We care for each other. We build a church that allows us to help one another in the congregation in ways large and small, understanding that this is the greatest gift we can offer.

  • We care for our children. We understand that we are collectively responsible for raising our children and youth in this faith tradition where we have found a home so that they too will see the value in striving to center love.

  • We care for the wider community. We understand that a church that extends its hands only to those within the congregation is an insular institution that fails to embrace the power of expansive love. Instead we strive for an ever-growing understanding of who is our neighbor.

  • We care for our buildings. While we understand that our church is not an edifice but a people, we recognize that we have been bequeathed a beautiful cathedral and campus that inspire awe and provide the physical foundation for our work. We tend to its needs so that we may continue to use it to further all our other efforts.
