April 17th – Are We There Yet?

“The Journey Toward Equality for the T in LGBTQ.”  Through great effort and thoughtful consideration, our church earned a Certification as a Welcoming Congregation in 2005.  An outstanding achievement!  Since that time, most would agree that the march toward equality for the gay community has accelerated.

              Where, however, are we with regard to full equality for Transgender people?  Rates of violence directed at the Trans community remain alarmingly high, especially women of color.  What is the impact on our faith community?  Are we truly welcoming for Trans people?  Is this the time to consider re-certification as a Welcoming Congregation?  Are we there yet?  Let’s explore together!
